Wythenshawe FM, operating on 97.2 FM and often referred to as WFM, serves the Wythenshawe community and the wider south Manchester region. Established as a pioneer in UK community radio, the station secured its permanent broadcasting licence in 2005.
Staffed entirely by local volunteers from Wythenshawe and nearby Manchester areas, the station broadcasts from a studio located near the main concourse of Wythenshawe Forum. Its contributions have earned notable recognition, including an award from the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester for its broadcasting efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2014. Even when in-person studio programming was suspended, WFM maintained round-the-clock transmissions.
